A wonderful interview which reminds those of us who benefitted from our ancestors whose hard and selfless work, enduring much discrimination, that we have much to be thankful for. Everyone’s perspective on the past is a little different so it’s good to learn about the experiences and inspirations of individuals and their ultimate motivations.
Thanks so much Eugene. I very much appreciate your thoughtful response. It emphasizes the importance of preserving our history, …Keeping our past alive … it not only honors those who came before us but also helps us connect on a deeper level with one another. Stories remind us that even though hard is the journey, we can learn from the triumphs and mistakes of those who came before us. I think you would agree they are like tools to help guide future generations.
Thnx Virginia. You and I know what it is like to have parents who work hard, long hours weeks of separation, struggled to make a home in exile they are our heroes.
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom Elgin, I really enjoyed it. A lot of things you have said resonate well with me, as immigrants, we must know our identity in order to live a meaningful life. I went to UBC too, the sense of where I belong made significant impact.
Thank you Grace. From China redirected to Canada due to Chinese exclusion act. We are fellow sojourners on road to life. Without God as anchor we are like a rolling stone but not complete unknown. He alone has a plan. So good to meet you again in California !
What a refreshingly delightful interview with Elgin sharing about her growing up early days in Canada and how she came to help and identify with the Chinese immigrants! I'm touched by her candor in dealing with unique relationships with elderly Chinese speaking individuals giving them a voice and sharing their stories & wisdom in dealing with struggles of day to day life. I enjoy hearing their stories of perseverance, hard work and success - plus Elgin is a great storyteller!
I would like to hear more from Elgin how she became a dedicated Christ follower, how her Family responded, how God uses her testimony to help others overcome difficulties and challenges. Also, I love listening to Elgin's voice - maybe another interview soon?
Thank you arlene for your astute and over the top compliment. Strange how we know each other for long time but really don’t know each other. Our parents taught us best way they knew how. First generation Asians in American culture. More is caught than taught. Their toils and trials give us strength to face our own journey. Listening to other’s stories magnify and give clarity to our own. It’s a gift they give

Great interview. Such meaningful work to document the histories of elderly Chinese Christians. Reminds me that I have so much to be grateful for.
